So the patch was huge right, one might wonder why, turns out most of the patch is stuff for 2.0. 1.9 added all the new 50-55 skills and items, and probably the new zones. It's all in English, so that really makes me wonder why we aren't getting 2.0 until fall.
For the actual changes 1.9 brought, most of them suck. They said exp would be boosted, I'm not seeing it, in fact I think it might have been nerfed because the new character I started ran out of quests at level 13 and then again at level 14, having to grind half a level both times. I don't remember that happening on any of my other characters. I think they nerfed the exp for quests and monster kills to counter the slight increase brought by the new "Energy of Salvation" feature. That EoS system appears to look at your time played at a certain level and if it's high enough gives you a 30% exp bonus until you level. I think it's something ridiculous, like 20 hours at level 10 ridiculous.
Item drops were supposed to have been increased, instead they were massively nerfed. What they did was very slightly boost the drop rate of white and green items, maybe 10% (I haven't noticed an increase) and then cut gray item drops by like 90%. Where you would get a gray item drop like 50-90% of the time in the past, now it's less than 10% of the time, people have recorded as few as 3 drops after over 50 kills. This was most likely done to reduce the amount of money in circulation on the Korean servers, and was never looked at in regards to how it would effect the Western servers.
The mist item system is terrible. These are the time limited weapons and armors you can buy, they are blue quality and last 14 days. Each piece in the 25-30 range is 200-300k each, you can buy much better crafted gear for much less and it will last forever. The 35-40 stuff is like 400-600k. Absolutely useless system.
The 2 new costumes cost 12mil each. I don't think there's a single western player that can afford them. If that sounds high, the new wings are 98mil. Again Korean prices not adjusted for the Western servers.
Flight Path, teleportation, and soul healing costs were lowered. I thought it was going to be like 50-75% decrease, but I don't even see a difference. It might be like 10-20%. It's still stupid expensive jumping around when you need to go back and forth multiple times. Especially since earning money is so much harder now.
In the abyss, another undocumented change is the Baluar have been given a major boost. Now when they attack it's pretty much a guaranteed win, they just demolish everything and everyone. I heard they spawn with like 3 extra heroes, I don't know what they means, but the abyss on most servers has quickly become pink. Yet another change based on the Korean servers, where apparently they think the game is too easy.
I did manage to get the game running for a while without it fucking up my gfx card. Not sure if the new drivers helped or if it's just a rare bug that might strike again later. They did something to the color setting, I used to play on 16bit (because 16 million colors should be enough -_-) but after the patch it looked like crap with like color blotches all over. Had to bump it up to 32bit, not a huge impact but every FPS counts IMO.
Overall, not happy I resubbed. I mean Aion itself is still a great game I guess, but I resubbed expecting new things and improvements, instead the first major patch since the game came out has brought nothing but nerfs and headaches. I'll try to play a few more days, but I don't expect I'll regain interest in the game again until 2.0. |

I was wrong. It's only a "chance" to gain 30% more exp per kill, and it only lasts a few kills. I got the bonus maybe 5 times right away, then it stopped even though I still had the buff up, then after 30 minutes the buff vanished.
Totally useless. |

I just watched the best guild on my server go all out to defend one of their forts from the balaur, activating at least 5 artifacts and bringing together all their members and outside support at prime time. They lost the fort in under 10 minutes.
The EoS system actually works for quest rewards and craft exp, so that's something cool. The normal rested system seems a lot better though. I remember before I'd log out for the night and come back the next day with like 15% or something which would be used up in 5 minutes. Now I get like 40% a night and it lasts a lot longer, and since I'm playing multiple characters I get them each to 100% then play them for a bit and that 100% will last them a full level and a half usually (depends on quests). |

Apparently the exp gain from the patch was a flat 30% for every mob. I dunno, I didn't really notice it. Now during the double exp weekend though it's kind of crazy. With rested exp I took from ranger from early level 15 to level 20 in 2 hours tonight. I was getting like 10k exp per kill. Probably would have gone faster if I didn't bother with some of the quests.
It also applies to craft skill exp, so instead of harvesting 4 times to raise essencetapping you only have to harvest twice, and then you get like 1k exp per harvest from stuff that needs around 70 essencetapping. |

| Hmmm I'm tempted to play some Aion again during the summer holiday... I would start a new character as Elyos though, last time I was Asmodian. I'm just not sure if I'd enjoy it on my own, since I doubt there are any guilds who'd like to recruit a super low level >.< |

I only played a couple more hours and got to 23 on my ranger. I wanted to play all yesterday and get to like level 30 but I just didn't feel like it.
On my server I was invited to 3 different guilds on my low level characters last week, and saw recruiting posts for 4-5 more that were accepting all levels. So if it's similar on the Euro servers it should be easy to get a guild. I didn't join any of them though, just been going solo and switching between my characters like every day.
I was tempted to join this guild called Mord Sith that invited me though. |

Hmm, which class do you think is best for soloing? spiritmaster?
I think I'm gonna resub after the exams next week. |

Spiritmaster or Chanter. Both are incredible at soloing, though Spiritmasters are a little better at PvE and much better in PvP.
Rangers might even be better at soloing (solo mobs), but it takes much more skill and interaction. I can go a very long time on my ranger without taking any damage at all, but it requires 100% of my concentration at all times (which I actually find fun). That doesn't really start until level 13 or 16 though, before that they suck.
My Spiritmaster is the only character I have that can easily and reliably solo even level elites though. I think my chanter can solo them too, but there's more risk and it might require potions, I didn't really try much though since it was so easy to get a group with a healer.
I haven't played a cleric or sorc yet. I'd imagine sorcs are similar to rangers but with much more downtime (MP). I dunno about clerics, I think they can solo fine but are slow at it, I intend to make one in the near future. |

I don't really know, but I don't think it matters. None of the DPS classes have that much utility, so I think as far as most people are concerned DPS is DPS. For like end game raiding they might prefer ranged DPS though as a lot of bosses have AoE attacks, but rangers and spiritmasters are both ranged anyway.
Though I guess personally I'd rather team with a spiritmaster than a ranger, because their pet can act as a decent off tank and it doesn't really matter at all if it dies. Unless I was playing a healer, then I'd rather have a ranger, as I wouldn't want to deal with healing the pet or healing the spiritmaster after they heal their pet. >_> |

I decided to go sorc again, but this time on the Elyos side. I think it's in my nature, I've always played mages or hybrids in the past... and I still love it eventhough I've played it before
Surprisingly, I kinda missed the game. Hope I can hold out longer this time.. |
