My account was just hacked. -_- I got that password changed email, and at first I was like, "How did this get past my spam filter?" Then my heart sank and I realized it was legit. I went to the battle.net site and somebody really had changed my password and reactivated my account. It just happened today, so maybe I stopped them in time by resetting my password right away, but I doubt that since they got in at 8am. I'm not going to log in myself to check anything, I don't want to contaminate the IP log or give them an excuse to not cancel the charge. I already sent a support email to Blizzard.

I could make sense of my first WoW account being hacked, I foolishly used the same login and password while playing on a private server. This is a different account though, with a unique login and unique password, and I don't have a keylogger and haven't even logged into the game since April. I don't see them brute forcing an 8 digit password of random letters and numbers either. I added a few digits to the new password, and I'm going to scan my PC again, but in the back of my mind the conspiracy theorist in me is screaming for a tin foil hat.

Still no reply from Blizzard. I'm glad I wasn't actually trying to play right now or I'd be so pissed.

Finally got a reply yesterday, stating only that my ticket had been forwarded to a specialist and that it could take a few days before I hear anything else. Then today I got a "Blizzard Support Customer Satisfaction Survey" email saying "We hope that the information that was provided to you was helpful in resolving your issue. Customer satisfaction is a top priority here at Blizzard Entertainment, and we would like your feedback on the level of service you have received."

Morons.

I almost did, but I'm going to give them another week. I guess it's no surprise that "a few days" in Blizzard speech is actually "a few weeks" in reality. I'm not really in a hurry anyway, I find it more amusing than anything.

They forgot to send me an email when they restored my characters on the 24th. Rolling Eyes

I logged in to get my items from the mailbox and check things out. They stripped all my characters above 60 except my DK and Paladin. My DK they mostly stripped, but left all her gear on and botted her from 77 to 78. She had like 4 full bags of trash items which sold for over 100 gold. So I think I came out ahead with this whole incident. A free level, and a free 100+ gold (and a free month of play I guess, as my account is still active, not that I want to play). My Paladin looks like was set up to do the same thing, but they never got to it, everything but her equipped gear was sold, but she was still in town, and flagged for some reason (do they farm BGs? I didn't check for that). The rest of my 60s were naked next to a mailbox. My 10-30s weren't touched, which is funny since that's where all my money was.

I am missing one character. I made a second DK on a random server which I can't find. She was only like level 56 though, and fresh out of the DK starting area. It might just be the server list bugging and not listing that server as having characters. I don't remember which server it was though. Oh, I just remembered it was an oceanic server, I'll have to log back in. >.<

Edit: She's fine. Looks like in the end I didn't suffer any losses. I'm just going to have to reorganize all my character's banks the next time I play. -_-

When you log into the game, the login screen message is about hacked accounts, so it looks like there's been a bunch lately. I wonder if it's a similar deal as with Warhammer, as I seriously can't explain how they could have hacked my account other than really lucky brute force.
